Questions to talk about
Word for word
Eli: Is faith really just believing something with your eyes shut?
Eli: Fair question. Plenty of people use the word that way.
Eli: Per Wikipedia, Paul's letters are counted as a source, and it says he knew eyewitnesses from the mid-30s AD.
Eli: Wikipedia says there are at least fourteen independent sources for Jesus' existence, including non-Christians like Josephus and Tacitus.
Eli: Historians widely accept Jesus' crucifixion under Pontius Pilate; James Dunn ranks it, with the baptism, as "almost impossible to doubt or deny."
Eli: That doesn't prove the miracles. Per Wikipedia, the historicity of the miracles and resurrection is deemed a matter of faith or theology.
Eli: A detective writing at Cold-Case Christianity argues faith is trust based on reasons and witnesses, not a leap in the dark.
Eli: Luke, traditionally a doctor and the traditional author of this Gospel, opened it like this.
Eli: it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophilus; that you might know the certainty concerning the things in which you were instructed.
Eli: Read Luke's Gospel with an open mind, and ask God honestly if he's there.
Eli: Or talk with a Christian friend or a local church; questions are welcome.
