Questions to talk about
Word for word
Mark: If you've ever felt not good enough for God, this one's for you. Honestly, I don't think I've ever been good enough. Is that a dealbreaker?
Scripture: Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
Mark: Let me say this as plainly as I can: it's about trusting Jesus, not earning anything. Here's John 5:24, in his own words.
Mark: I know that can sound almost too simple. So here's what's going on around that verse, and where it's coming from.
Mark: Jesus is talking about his Father. He says the Father raises the dead and gives them life, and the Son gives life to whom he desires. Life is a gift.
Mark: A gift, okay. But I'll be honest, the judgment part scares me a little, and I don't want to pretend it doesn't.
Mark: Later in that same passage, Jesus says the Father gave the Son authority to judge. The one holding judgment is the same one offering life.
Mark: Maybe you've drifted a long way, like I did. Maybe you wonder why any of this would count for you.
Mark: I'm not spotless either. I'm saved only by grace, because Jesus died for me and rose again.
Sarah: I love you, and I want you there with me. If you want, just say, God, I want to know you. No pressure, ever. You're wanted, just as you are, and the door's always open. Follow along for more.
