Questions to talk about
Word for word
Caleb: Man, what a long day. Night, Sarah.
Hannah: Mmm... night, Mark.
Caleb: Mmm. What time is it? Did we sleep for a year?
Hannah: No idea. Wait. Why does my head feel so smooth?
Caleb: Whoa. Sarah, your hair! It has layers now!
Hannah: Layers? Look at you, you have a chin! You've never had a chin!
Caleb: And my head is round and shiny! Somebody polished me in my sleep!
Caleb: Wait, look at my hands! I have fingers! Real fingers!
Hannah: No way! And look down. We have toes!
Caleb: Ten little toes! And they wiggle!
Caleb: Okay, our creator gave us an upgrade overnight. We totally got an upgrade!
Hannah: Best morning ever! And if our creator can do that overnight, think about what God does with us. Remember the potter and the clay?
Scripture: But now, Yahweh, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you our potter. We all are the work of your hand.
Caleb: Okay, real question. How did I ever flip eggs without fingers?
Hannah: I have no idea! I think I just kind of hugged my coffee mug with my whole arm.
Hannah: Anyway, back to the potter. In Jeremiah, the pot comes out wrong in the potter's hand, and he doesn't throw it out. He makes it again.
Caleb: So I'm a do-over!
Hannah: You're a work in progress. And Malachi says he sits like a refiner of silver. The fire is how the silver gets pure.
Caleb: Oh! So that's why I felt so warm last night!
Hannah: Exactly. Our creator upgraded the outside. Through Jesus, God makes us new on the inside, and he never stops.
Scripture: Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.
Hannah: And get this. When God gave people a new start, sometimes he gave them a new name. Abram became Abraham. Sarai became Sarah.
Caleb: Wait, so your name is already the upgraded version?
Hannah: Apparently! Mark, look down!
Caleb: Caleb? My name is Caleb now?
Hannah: And I'm Hannah! Hannah! I love it!
Caleb: New look, new name! Caleb sounds like a guy who can fix a leaky sink.
Hannah: You can't fix anything!
Caleb: Hey, I'm a work in progress. You said so!
Hannah: And you, watching this? God isn't done with you either.
Hannah: So what do you hope he's shaping in you right now? Follow along with Caleb and me for more good news.
