Questions to talk about
Word for word
Mark: I lie awake replaying the worst things I've done. Is God still holding them against me?
Sarah: That's heavy to carry. Paul wrote to the Romans to explain that salvation comes through Jesus, and this verse sits right there. Listen.
Scripture: There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Mark: Wait. Romans 8:1 says there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. What about my past?
Sarah: Sin is real. But the next lines say God sent his own Son for sin, and condemned sin in the flesh. Paul says God sent his Son, and condemned sin in the flesh.
Mark: But I haven't earned that. I'm hardly walking a perfect line.
Sarah: Most of us struggle with that, me included. But the letter explains that salvation is offered through the gospel of Jesus Christ, not by being good enough.
Mark: So what happens to the list I keep replaying?
Sarah: Paul says the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made him free from the law of sin and of death.
Mark: I'd like to believe that. Where do I start?
Sarah: The De Pree Center says we can speak honestly to God, so maybe tell God the truth, even just, I want to know you. And talk with a pastor or a Christian friend. I love you. What would change if you set that list down? Follow along for more.
